Changing for good
Sometimes it takes time and to step back and a bit of courage to take decisions and make changes. In my work as a natural dyer I have always wanted to offer exceptional, soft and high quality hand dyed yarns to the knitters from around the world.
I have been sourcing my alpaca, silk, mohair and merino yarn bases mainly in the UK, but many of these yarns were not produced there, having travelled from South America, South Africa, Australia, Mongol Nation to the warehouse of my distributor, before they arrived to me in Mallorca.
A veces se requiere un cierto tiempo para ver las cosas con distancia, y coraje para afrontar cambios. En mi trabajo como tintorera siempre he querido ofrecer lanas excepcionales, suaves y de muy alta calidad para los tejedores de todo el mundo.
Las bases de alpaca, seda, mohair y merino las adquiría a mi proveedor del Reino Unido, pero la mayoría de estas lanas no se producen allí, sino que han viajado desde Sud América, Sud Africa, Australia, Mongolia al almacén de mi distribuidor, antes de recibirlas yo en Mallorca.
Once here the skeins were naturally dyed and sent again to different parts of the world in Europe, UK, USA or even Asia.
Though I felt very honored and proud to have customers from so far away… I was very concerned about the long traveling these skeins had made, since their origin, to my studio and then off to your homes.
Una vez aquí, las madejas eran teñidas y enviadas de nuevo a diferentes destinos en Europa, Reino Unido, Estados Unidos o tan lejos como Asia.
Aunque me llenaba de orgullo tener clientes de lugares tan lejanos… me preocupaba mucho el largo viaje que habían hecho estas madejas desde su lugar de origen, a mi estudio y de nuevo hacia vuestros hogares.
Lately all this traveling and carbon foot print worried me very much and it did not make sense to me anymore working in this direction. Though I love the quality and feeling of these yarns, I was ready for a change.
Now I feel the urge to support local suppliers of Mallorcan Sheep breeds, Spanish Mills and other Mediterranean producers.
Últimamente todo este trasiego y la huella de carbono que implicaba me preocupaba mucho y ya no tenía sentido para mi seguir trabajando en esta dirección. A pesar de que me entusiasma la calidad y la sensación de estas lanas, ha llegado el momento de hacer un cambio.
Ahora siento la necesidad de apoyar productores locales de razas de oveja mallorquina, hilaturas nacionales y proveedores del ámbito Mediterráneo.
Beautiful fiber projects as Llanatura have emerged in Mallorca and in the rest of Spain projects as dLana are consolidating or Wooldreamers are emerging and my time has come to support them and to create in an even more sustainable way.
My online store, which is temporarily closed, will no longer be filled with many lustrous yarns but rather with a small batch of naturally dyed yarns and a selection of consciously curated pieces, hand crafted with local or Mediterranean fibers and goods.
I hope you may follow me along and become my accomplice in this change for good , where we will all hopefully benefit from.
En Mallorca han surgido bellos proyectos como Llanatura y en el resto de España proyectos como dLana se han consolidado u otros como Wooldreamers han nacido recientemente. En estos tiempos considero importante apoyarlos, producir y consumir de una manera aún más sostenible.
Mi tienda online, cerrada temporalmente, ya no estará repleta de lanas lustrosas, sino de pequeñas ediciones de lanas locales y nacionales teñidas con colores botánicos, y una cuidada selección de piezas, hechas a conciencia y a mano con fibras o materiales locales o del entorno Mediterráneo.
Espero que me queráis acompañar y que seáis mis cómplices en este cambio para bien, del que ojalá todos nos beneficiemos.
