Edinburgh Yarn Festival 2017
Por fin este año he conseguido ir al
Edinburgh Yarn Festival
, EYF, (Festival de lanas de Edimburgo) y he pensado que sería bonito compartir con vosotros algunas de las impresiones que he tenido y mostraros los colores y texturas que he podido ver y sentir en vivo. Por supuesto, también he conocido a tejedoras de todo el mundo, podcasters británicas, conocidos diseñadores, tintoreras de lana independientes, hilanderas... ¡un verdadero lujo!
This year I made it to the EYF and I thought it would be nice to share with you some impressions about colors and textures I was able to see and feel. Of course I have also met many nice knitters from around the world, british podcasters, well known designers and indie wool dyers or spinners, which was a real treat.

Lo primero que me llamó la atención es ver tantos chales, patrones y lanas que normalmente sólo se ven el las páginas web, Ravelry o en revistas. Por todas partes había
tejedoras luciendo sus prendas con orgullo
y expositores ofreciendo sus preciosas lanas de tendencia.
The first thing that caught my attention was to see life so many shawls, pattern and yarns that I usually would only see at websites, Ravelry or magazines. Everywhere there were
knitters wearing their garments with pride
and vendors offering their beautiful trendy yarns.
Fibras con explosión de colores, moteadas, trenzadas y sobre todo buenas vibraciones llenaban los pasillos del festival llenos de gente. Se veían por todas partes tejedores felices de encontrar la combinación de colores deseada y vendedores que habían llenado sus stands abrumados por la demanda de personas que querían tejer con sus lanas.
Explosions of colors, speckled, twisted fibers and good vibrations were filling the crowded aisles of the festival. Knitters excited to find their desired color combinations and vendors who had filled their booths overwhelmed by the stream of crafters wanting to knit with their yarns.
Por supuesto, entre tantos colores de moda también quedaba espacio para la tradición con paletas de color más sobrias y muchas
fibras del Reino Unido, Islandia, Finlandia
, producidas por hiladores del país de origen, resaltando las cualidades de cada tipo de vellón, y sus habilidades para tejer patrones tradicionales.
Of course amongst all this funky-trendy colors there was also room for tradition, deeper color palettes and many
British, Icelandic, Finnish yarns
produced in country mills highlighting the qualities of local fleece and their know how knitting traditional pattern.
El invitado especial de este año al EYF, llegaba desde el otro lado del Atlántico, era
Jared Flood de Brooklyn Tweed
, quien compartió con todos los visitantes su simpatía y buen gusto a la hora de ayudarles a escoger un color o una lana para alguno de sus patrones del libro

From overseas this year the EDF's special guest was
Jared Flood from Brooklyn Tweed
, who shared with all the visitors his sympathy and good taste when it was time to pick a color or yarn for one of his Woolens book patterns.

Otra de las cosas que me gustó del EYF fue la presencia de
tintoreras independientes que trabajan con tintes naturales
y crean maravillosos y delicados colores. Uno de mis favoritos es Woolenflowers, quien también ofrecía unas bolsitas de tweed cosidas a la perfección y repletas de belleza.

ndie dyers who use natural plants to create their stunning and delicate colors
. One of my favorite is Woolenflower, who also offers beautiful tweed pouches sewn with care and full of beauty.
Y hablando de accesorios y demás cosas... por supuesto, también encontré una gran selección de tote bags, herramientas de punto, bolsas de proyectos en muchas formas, colores y estilos, además de un montón de libros y revistas la mar de tentadoras.
And talking about accessorize and more, of course there was also a great selections of tote bags, pouches, knitting tools, project bags in multiple form, colors and style and many tempting books and magazines.

Entre toda esta selección de productos dedicados al punto y ganchillo, también me gustó encontrar algunos stands dedicados al hilado. El
stand de Spin City era por supuesto el más colorido
, lleno de mezclas de lana peinada con toques de brillo y destellos. Se podía ver a Louise enseñando a las interesadas cómo hilar con un huso y hasta yo me atreví a hilar lana en su rueca customizada Kromski Fantasía. ¡Cómo disfruté!
Amongst all this selection of knitting and crochet goods it was also nice to find a couple of booths dedicated to spinning.
Spin City's booth was of course the most colorful filled with bright and glittery batts
. One could see Louise kindly instructing people how to use a drop spindle and even I tried spinning on her customized Kromski Fantasia Wheel. It was so much fun!

Pues, sin duda alguna, ha sido una experiencia fantástica. Conocer a gente del Reino Unido, Finlandia, Alemania, Francia, Italia... tener la oportunidad de entre mis manos chales, jerseys o chaquetas tejidas por muchos de los diseñadores que admiro y siempre rodeada de colores, tejedores entusiastas, hiladores, ganchilleras y tintoreras.
Definitivamente, valió la pena.
Yes, for sure EYF was a wonderful experience. Meeting people from Great Britain, Finnland, Germany, France, Italy..., being able to hold in my hands shawls, pullover or cardigans knitted by many designers that I admire in an overflowed space of colors and enthusiastic knitters, spinners, crocheters and dyers. It was definitely worth while.
Después de un largo día en este "País Lanero de las Maravillas" fue casi un alivio salir a disfrutar de los colores grises y oscuros de la ciudad de Edimburgo. Llena de vistas maravillosas, tradición, gente amable y excelentes whiskys. :)
And after a long day in this "Yarn Wonderland" it was nice to get out into the grayish, charcoal colors of the city of Edinburgh. Full of beautiful sights, tradition, nice people and great whisky. :)
