Ya han pasado más de tres años desde que decidí abrir mi estudio al público para infundir creatividad en la comunidad y compartir mi pasión por la naturaleza y las actividades creativas respetuosas con el medio ambiente. Durante este período he aprendido mucho. He aprendido mucho sobre las fibras naturales, razas de ovejas, propiedades de las lanas; sobre punto e hilado y sobre hebras e hilos.
It has been over three years when I decided to open my studio to the public wanting to infuse creativity into the community and sharing my passion for nature and environmental friendly crafts. During this period I have learned a lot. I learned a lot about fiber, breeds, yarn properties, knitting, spinning and plies.
He aprendido mucho sobre las personas y sobre la gran necesidad que tenemos de compartir, aprender y conectarnos unos con otros. He aprendido de todos los artistas y artesanos, grandes inspiradores que han pasado por Open Studio 79 para compartir con nosotros su sabiduría y visión.
I learned a lot about people and how much we need to share, learn and connect with each other. I learned from all those inspiring artists and artisan that came to Open Studio 79 to share with us their wisdom and vision.

Esta experiencia de aprendizaje tan fantástica ha hecho que sienta más curiosidad todavía y, poco a poco, también me ha hecho más consciente sobre nuestra relación con el medio ambiente. Me ha hecho reflexionar sobre nuestros comportamientos y nuestros patrones de consumo y abrir los ojos sobre la manera en que vivimos y sobre el verdadero coste de nuestras acciones.
This wonderful experience of learning has made me even more curious and little by little more conscious about our relationship towards our natural environment. It has made me think about our behaviours, about our patterns of consumption and open my eyes about the way we live and the true costs of our actions.

Definitivamente, ha habido un cambio en mí que me ha llevado a querer hacer pequeñas transformaciones en mis acciones y ojalá pueda inspirar también a alguno de vosotros a través de mis proyectos en Open Studio 79. Especialmente en lo relacionado a las fibras naturales, ya que el aprender a hilar lana, a teñir con tintes naturales y a transformar esta fibra en un tejido o una pieza de punto a través de un telar o agujas de tejer, no solo supone una satisfacción inmediata, sino que se convierte también en un declaración o expresión de mis pensamientos.
There is definitely a change in myself and a will to make little transformations in my own actions and hopefully inspire also some of you through my projects at Open Studio 79. Specially regarding our relationship towards natural fiber, since learning to spin wool, to dye with natural dyes and to transform this fiber into a piece of fabric or garment through weaving or knitting has become not only a great satisfaction for myself, but also a statement or expression of my thoughts.
Una pieza de ropa que compramos en una tienda ha recorrido un largo camino, que muchas veces desconocemos o no nos planteamos. Independientemente de si se trata de una fibra sintética o natural, esta prenda de ropa que compramos en un comercio, ha tenido que ser hilada por una máquina y sus trabajadores; ha tenido que ser teñida, produciendo un impacto en el medio ambiente; ha tenido que ser cosida y ha tenido que ser transportada en carguero varias veces de un lado a otro del mundo durante todo este proceso. El precio que pagamos por las prendas de la "fast fashion" o "moda desechable" no es alto, pero realmente estamos pagando un coste muy elevado en salud, contaminación medioambiental y la dignidad de los trabajadores implicados.
A piece of clothing that one buys in a shop has a long journey behind, which, many times, we do not know or think about. Regarding if it is a natural or synthetic fiber, the garment we buy in a store had to be spun by a machine and it's workers, it had to be dyed producing an impact on the environment, it had to be sewn together and shipped in this whole process several times from one part of the world to another. The prices that we pay for the clothes in the fast fashion industry are not high, but we are actually paying a very high cost in terms of health, environmental pollution and dignity of the workers involved.
Es cierto que la ropa es una parte esencial de nosotros y que sería difícil vivir sin ella. Nos da cobijo y protección y representa una manera muy importante de expresarnos. Necesitamos ropa, pero a lo mejor no necesitamos tanta ropa. Es verdad que los salarios son muy bajos en España en relación a otros países europeos y que para muchas familias es muy difícil poder acceder a fibras de buena calidad, pero este mismo hecho debe ser otra razón importante para luchar por un fondo de armario más digno para todos.
It is true that clothes are an essential part of us, it would be hard to live without them. They give us shelter and protection and they are an important way to express ourselves. We need clothes, but perhaps we do not need so many clothes. It is true that salaries are very low in Spain compared to other European countries and it is many times very hard for families to have access to good quality fibers, but even this fact should be another important reason to fight for a more dignified wardrobe for all of us.
Creo en el cambio, en aprender de nuestros errores, en tomar nuevos caminos y en trabajar juntos para una mejor coexistencia o vida común en nuestro planeta. Nuestras acciones determinarán a las nuevas generaciones de las que tomamos prestados su futuro y la vida sobre la Madre Tierra.
I believe in change, in learning from our mistakes, in taking new paths and working together for a better coexistence, communal living in our planet. Our actions will determinate the next generations, from whom we lend their future and life on Mother Earth.
A través de mi estudio y este blog intentaré compartir con vosotros no solo mis pensamientos, sino también mis humildes conocimientos sobre fibras naturales, tintes, hilados y puntos o el trabajo de otras personas inspiradoras y sus iniciativas. Os invito a acompañarme y a construir juntos una renovada manera de pensar y de actuar.
Through my studio and this blog I will try to share with you not only my thoughts, but also my humble knowledge in terms of natural fiber, dyes, weaving or knitting or the work of other inspiring people and their initiatives.
